My study of Sub-Saharan climate fiction “Imagining Food Futures in Sub-Saharan Speculative Fiction” will be published this year as a chapter in a scholarly collection with the (still preliminary) name Transnational Perspectives on Food Pasts and Futures. I also edit this book together with Professor Desiree Lewis at the University of Western Cape, Professor Paul Young at the University of Exeter, and Dr Heather Thuynsma at the University of Pretoria. I am very glad that the book will be published Open Access by ESI Press in South Africa. Not only is this an award-winning press that has a very good track record publishing food studies material, it is also an increasingly important non-profit outlet for scholarly material. In a situation where researchers/universities have to pay large sums of money to a few large, for-profit publishing conglomerates to make their research available, initiatives such as ESI Press are becoming more and more important.
